Google Camera can take full advantage of the available cameras and image processing hardware as it can on the stock OS and does not require GSF or - sandboxed Google Play on GrapheneOS.
- -On 7th generation Pixels, Google Camera is a privileged app on the stock - Pixel OS and has privileged access to Tensor SoC hardware acceleration - unavailable to regular apps. Since it's a regular sandboxed app on GrapheneOS, - it has to use more software processing. It captures photos just as quickly but - takes longer to process them after capturing. It doesn't lose any features or - any image quality from lack of privileged access. Since several photos can be - queued up for processing, this is only noticeable if you try to quickly take - multiple pictures without a couple seconds for it to process them. One special - case is Portrait mode on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro which requires a lot of - time to process each picture without the privileged hardware acceleration and - is therefore very noticeable because after a few shots, you'll need to wait a - while for the slow software processing. Google has acknowledged this as an - issue and is working on improving it. There have been major improvements in - recent Google Camera releases. We're considering providing a toggle for users - to choose to give direct GXP hardware acceleration access to Google - Camera.
